Eccentric muscle actions, and thus, ECCENTRIC-ONLY training is difficult – but, the benefits of it happen very quickly, and you can improve incredibly fast. Do not be afraid of using it; there are way MORE benefits than risks!

Eccentric muscle actions and decelerations are A SKILL that you need to learn. Unfortunately, almost no one teaches or learns it. Incorporate a LEARNING approach into your deceleration skills, utilize the basics of MOTOR LEARNING and SKILL ACQUISITION and you will see massive improvements in how athletes move.

LEARN/TEACH decelerations FIRST! Then, or rather at the same time, also add TRAINING for eccentric muscle actions to build up adequate TISSUE CHARACTERISTICS. Only then, start moving more towards PRACTICING these together under various sport-specific situations.
